Jerome C. Studer is chair of Legal Fee Solutions. He has more than 15 years of experience in the field of legal fee analytics and works to ensure that clients obtain high-quality and cost-effective legal representation. He is a licensed attorney and Certified Litigation Management Professional.
At LFS, Joe conducts sophisticated quantitative analyses of legal fees, using a variety of data sources and tools. He has audited billions of dollars in legal fees and produced independent and trial-tested reports on fee reasonableness.
A highly experienced litigator and partner with the law firm of Cozen O’Connor, Joe focuses his practice on helping clients analyze and resolve disputes over attorneys’ fees. In many instances, it is possible to avoid conflict through early intervention or reach a negotiated settlement. When it is not, Joe is fully prepared to go to court. He has successfully litigated dozens of attorney fee disputes, including some of the largest in the country.
Joe also testifies as an expert witness on the reasonableness of legal fees and hourly rates and provides litigation management services in the context of large and ongoing litigation.
He regularly lectures on fee reasonableness and litigation management issues to industry groups, continuing education seminars, clients and other small groups. He also serves as chair of the Audit Committee for the Claims and Litigation Management Alliance (CLM).
Joe earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Chicago in 1992 and his law degree with honors from IIT Chicago-Kent College of Law in 1995. While in law school, Joe served as a judicial extern for U.S. District Judge George M. Marovich and (then) U.S. Magistrate Judge Rebecca R. Pallmeyer. Before college, Joe was a sergeant in the U.S. Army, where he served as a section leader in a cavalry scout platoon based in Germany. An avid cyclist, Joe commutes to work by bike year round, even through the dark of Chicago’s winters.
